Let’s Talk about City Government
The City of Midland’s Community Affairs Department is responsible for telling our residents about the many amazing departments, programs, and services that your local government provides! We offer a variety of print and digital media offerings that help you stay informed with what’s going on in Midland.
In addition, the department oversees the City’s two Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts, the Downtown Development Authority and the Center City Authority, and Midland Community Television (MCTV).

Did you know that you can get City news releases, service alerts, public meeting agendas, open jobs notices, and even the weekly refuse and recycling schedule all in one place every single week? It's true! Communications published City Hall News every Friday afternoon to provide residents a one-stop-shop for all of the latest City info right into their inboxes. We also send service alerts, snow plowing updates, and closure reminders to our email list.

Video & Podcast Projects
Our Communications staff works directly with Midland Community Television (MCTV) to create video news updates available to watch on MGTV Channel 188, the City website, and the City's social media channels. In particular, we published three recurring news segments: "What's Up in the City!" (a recap of the previous Monday's City Council meetings), "What's Up in the City: Planning" (a recap of the previous Tuesday's Planning Commission meetings), and "Midland Minute" (updates on City news, programs, and other community information).

In addition to video news, Community Affairs staff also participate on two of the City's new podcast programs. Communications Coordinator Katie Guyer co-hosts "Word on the Street(s)", a podcast for information and updates on the Indian & Buttles Corridor Improvement Project. Community Affairs
City Communications oversees the City's Citizens Academy, a free 10-week program that allows residents an up-close look at the departments, facilities, and programs that make Midland run smoothly! The application process opens in early November and each academy runs from January to March. For more information on Citizens Academy, click here.
City Calendar & Services Guide
Every December, Midland residents receive an annual City Calendar & Services Guide in their mailboxes. The City Calendar & Services Guide provides residents with information about each of the City's departments, as well as important due dates, holiday closures, event information, and more! Photos are provided by residents during our annual Community Photo Contest, which runs from early August through Labor Day each year.
